THE WHIPPETS
We regularly show Clover and Blue who have been consistent winners in the all breeds and specialty arena.  Both are beautiful but they are different.  Blue is all about shape, but Clover is long and so sound.  We are aiming for their Grand Championships in 2010.  Late last year, we started campaigning Laser, a Clover son.  He won many Baby Puppy Groups and several Baby In Show awards and in 2010 when he went up against the big boys, he has obtained several challenges.  Occasionally we show Rosie and Dante is now staying at home to grow and mature.   The matriach at Ridgesetter, our Alice, spends most of her time on our bed, but comes our for specialty shows and veteran classes.  Spot doesn't really like the showring, so he spends his time playing in the yard and is always a wonderful guardian of any litter we have.  Lucy, is also another home body and has settled down heaps after her litter.  Panda and Baby are always there to greet us when we come home.  Those who know Baby's story will smile to know that she is now 7 years old.

THE RIDGEBACKS
Zani, at 7 years of age and after 3 litters, is basically retired.  And what a year 2009 was for Duke!  AWe did promise him an easier year this year but it's hard to leave him at home when he's doing so well and hasn't reached full potential yet.  Sabrina , our baby, is having her first litter (to Duke) so exciting times for us.

THE SALUKIS
Peaches is the easiest dog we share our home with.  She's very much a creature of routine and makes no demands on anyone - it's us who make demands on her like get off the lounge.  However, Peaches has a philosphy that works for her - if she can't see you, she can't hear you!  Basically retired now, we have her son, Quest, at home for the moment.  A very raw and gangly boy who needs time to mature and fill out.

2010 NEWS

6-7 MAR
A weekend at home.  Saturday morning John made some minor repairs to fencing to stop our lot visiting next door and playing with Goldie, the red cattle dog.    Poor Tweeter (Sharon's pony) stands in the middle of the paddock as the dogs all play chasings.  We then went to Cobbity markets, then an afternoon with the puppies whilst John took Peaches to the vet for a check and bandage change, and then a lovely dinner out with friends that night.  Sunday Linda and Darryl came for lunch to check the babies out and some puppy buyers visited in the afternoon.  I spend my time mixing up food for them, a little playtime, then getting the pooper scooper out, then washing down and soon it's time to start all over again.  they are very labour intensive at the moment.  New pictures of the puppies to be uploaded tonight.  Debating uploading onto Picassa.

4 MAR
Peaches tail had not healed well and there was no alternative but to have her tail amputated and we also requested she be desexed whilst under anaesthetic.  We're sorry she had to lose half her tail but her health is paramount.  She came home late and climbed up onto her favourite lounge and lay on her back so all is well. Heaven had a check up and all ok.  Puppies now spend nights outside and are fine.  Eating and pooping well.  More pics this weekend.  Our ANKC Assessor Accreditation is finally up on the ANKC website.

2 MAR
Puppies spent the day outside but came in at night. Starting to be lots of work now.

1 MAR
Peaches went back for a check up and change of bandage. Not looking good. If it isn’t better on Thursday, the tail will need to be amputated. Introduced puppies to outside world for a little time.   Presented Whippet Lecture to Trainee Dogs NSW judges.

Puppies are eating more and more and I’m cleaning and washing more and more. Sabrina is a great mum. Whippet baby, Heaven, went for her check up and it was decided not to x-ray and just keep her quiet and the swelling should go down. The teeth and jaw were all aligned and okay.  Visited Ming and her puppies.  So cute.

25 FEB
Came home and noticed the whippet babies muzzle is badly swollen. Another trip out to the vet for a suspected fracture. She’s to go back in the morning for an x-ray and another check after she had a shot of antiinflammatories.

24 FEB
Brought Peaches home. Fingers crossed it’ll be okay.  Puppies are now spending the days outside but coming in of a night.

23 FEB
Disaster. Peaches broke her tail. Rushed her off to the vet and we’re trying to save it. She’s staying overnight and being operated tomorrow morning.

22 FEB
The puppies are unsettled.  Sabrina is still doing a great job but I offered them some food tonight and they were into it!  I've never weaned this early but their eyes were open early, and they are up on their feet and being such a large litter, I'll be weaning early.  Bedding is being changed twice daily, nails need regular clipping.  Better get that poopa scooper ready!  New pictures loaded onto Snapfish.

21 FEB - HAWKESBURY KC
John went off to show today as I stayed home for puppy buyers to visit Sabrina and the pups.  Under Christina Rafton, Duke was Best Of Breed, Clover was BOB & BEST IN GROUP, Laser was Reserve Dog.    Well done John.  he always says when I let him show, he wins.  : D

20 FEB - KANGAROO VALLEY AG SHOW
Under Simon Mills, Duke was Best of Breed and cut for group.  Laser was Res Dog.   Home, fed and exercised dogs, then off to Linda and Darryl's for a barbie and to check out her RR litter.  Leigh's girl, Pearl, is gorgeous.  Got some lovely pics.

18 FEB
Ming came home last night and Margot monitored her throughout the night.  It appears as though she has developed milk and should be able to feed the puppies.  Dogs are so resilient.  Big thanks to Russell, Margot’s local vet at French Forest Vet Hospital for a great job.  Poor Margot.  Her first litter and a real baptism of fire.  And people think breeding dogs is easy and there's money to be made!  Off to dinner at Ryan & Nicole’s to try out their new dining table.

17 FEB
Ming (Ridgesetter Ming Dynasty) started whelping her litter at Margot’s.  Unfortunately, the firt puppy was stuck and needed help from the 24hr Forestville Animal Hospital to help get out.  Then 3 more puppies before disaster.  Ming started haemorraging and started to crash.  An emergency caesarian was performed and because of a major clot, a total desexing (removal of uterus) which is major surgery.  She lost a lot of blood and it was very touch and go and it’s a wait and see.  8 puppies – 5 girls and 3 boys.

16 FEB
Puppies are up on their feet!   Early, but expected in a large litter.  Sabrina is doing a fabulous job.  All puppies are clean and quiet and have full tummies.  Sharon moved Tweeter to my neighbour’s back yard.  Most of my dogs just think she’s a big dog but Laser is very confused about her.  Duke reaches up and they run noses.  So sweet.

15 FEB
Really strong winds and still lots of rain.  We left Bermagui early and just made it out as other friends couldn’t get out as roads were cut due to flooding.  Home to sunshine, warmth and long grass.  Puppies are 1 week old and already, eyes have started to open.

14 FEB - SAPPHIRE COAST K&O
Still raining and I’’ve got webbed feet!  Under Carol Pearon (QLD) Duke was BOB, Clover was BOB and Open in Group, Rosie RUBOB, Laser Res Dog.

13 FEB - SAPPHIRE COAST K&O
Now pouring!  Under Ben Luxton (SA) Duke was BOB and RUBIG.  Clover was BOB and Open in Group, Laser Minor Group, Rosie RUBOB and Junior Group.  Lizzie came 2nd in class and Bogie was Junior of Breed.

12 FEB - SAPPHIRE COAST K&O
Wet, wet, wet Wolumla!  Under Shelly Walker (NZ) Duke was Reserve Dog and RUBOB.  Clover was BOB and Open Group, Laser Reserve Dog and Minor Group, Rosie was RUBOB and Junior Group.  Lizzie was BOB and run for group and Bogie was Junior of Breed.

11 FEB
With some trepidation, I left for the second weekend of south coast shows with John leaving Sharon home to look after Sabrina and her pups plus some of our adult dogs.  On the way down, we dropped off Dante, our fawn boy, for a trial run with Shannon, who has Connor from one of our earlier litters.  As well, we dropped off a Border Collie baby for Sharon to her new home on the south coast.

10 FEB
Rebecca came and chose our fawn and white girl who is now called Jayde.  We heard that Callum adores her and we are eagerly awaiting her show debut.
Sandra came down in the afternoon and took home our little pocket rocket girl.  We know she will be adored and much loved.

Duke was BEST IN GROUP & RUNNER-UP BEST IN SHOW, Laser Dog CC and Minor In Group, Rose BOB and Junior in Group, Clover Open in Group, Alice 3rd in Veteran Sweeps.

Sabrina kept me up last night with lots of panting.  After a call to the vet to settle my nerves, I sat down to wait and suddenly, there was a puppy!  7 very strong puppies in 2 1/2 hours then nothing for nearly 3 hours so another call to the vet - who was about to go to bed.  A shot of oxytocin and puppies started coming again.   I hope she's finished.  There's 13!

6 FEB - BEGA VALLEY K&O
Duke was BEST IN GROUP, Laser Dog CC, Rose Junior in Group, Clover BOB and Open in Group, Alice 1st in Veteran Sweeps.  Lizzie was RUBOB and Open in Group and Bogey Junior in Group.

4 FEB
John and Sharon left for the Bega Valley shows at Bermagui.   I'm home alone with our adult dogs and litter of whippet pups, a heavily pregnant RR and a whippet in season, Sharon's 6 weeks old Border Collie litter, her adult Borders, 2 ponies and Emily, the cat.   The rain has been very heavy here and the same down the coast.

FEB
Busy times ahead.  John is Assistant Co-ordinator for the Hound Group on Monday nights and has been asked to be an Assistant Co-ordinator for the Working Dog Group on Wednesday nights.  He attends Utility lectures as a candidate on Tuesday nights and I attend Toy Group lectures on Wednesday nights.  There will be lots of work but we're looking forward to learning about new breeds and refreshing ourselves on breeds we are already licenced for.

30 JAN
Sadly, the goanna died overnight.

29 JAN
Found an injured goanna today in the middle of the road.  He was quite big (about 5' from head to tail) and wasn't moving so we gingerly lifted him by the tail with a branch underneath and put him in the back of the car and drove to Camden Uni Reptile Hospital.  On the way, there was some thrasing in the back and we were getting a little concerned but more of a problem was the smell.  He'd obviously had a meal on something quite dead and revolting.  At the clinic, the vet asked us to bring him in.  We shook our heads and said no way - he's big and become active.  She got some gloves and a towel, came out and said xxxx he's big!  Anyway, she got him out and as we were walking back into the clinic, he poohed all across the floor and down the front of the vet.  What a smell!!!  The vet said all goannas smell and we had a lesson in how to hold and carry goannas and crocodiles - not that there's any crocs living around here - I hope.  I offered to pay if they could save him so we are waiting on news.

26 JAN - AUSTRALIA DAY SHOW
A really hot day.  Duke won BOB, Laser got his 4th Challenge and MINOR GROUP, Rosie came 2nd in Junior.  Quest was absent as he took out our Mandarin tree a few days ago and injured his foot.  John not happy - the tree was about 4' high and full of fruit.

25 JAN
Just got the news that Penny's girl, Java, is well and truly pregnant.  Looking forward to more Duke babies.

23 JAN
I went with Sharon to Dog & Puppy of the Year.  Sharon showed Caleb and I showed her youngster, Bogey.  Only got through to the second round.

20 JAN
We (the family) went to see Mama Mia at the Lyric Theatre.  Great night and great show.

19 JAN
Whippet babies had their check-up at the vets, vaccinated and microchipped.  All okay.  Sabrina ultrasounded and Marilyn counted at least 8 puppies.  Yippee.

DEC - JAN
Our son and daughter-in-law got the keys to their new home on Christmas Eve.  How exciting.

We got to meet Poppy and her new family.  Poppy was from Zani and Duke and was rehomed whilst we were overseas last year, due to one of the children having an allergy to dogs.  Poppy is now living in Canberra and came up to Sydney to board with my neighbour.  After 2 weeks of running 6 acres with Border Collies, mingling with the horses and uncertain about the cat, we heard she slept 2 days when she got back home!

8 FEB
Sabrina finished with 13 puppies!  8 boys and 5 girls.  She's a fabulous mum.  John and Sharon returned home from Bermagui this afternoon.
