2010 was busy for us, not only because in the last 6 months we undertook major renovations whilst still living in the house, but it was just one of those years where so much happened. The renovations created total disruption to our lives, and especially the dogs who couldn't run freely like they were used to. With various tradespersons here and gates open, they spent a lot of time in the kennels. However, we're nearly finished, or at least we have some sort of routine and stability, so the dogs are back running free.
We seemed to spend several nights at Erskine Park for judging training - Monday nights Toys (me) and Working Dogs (John assisted), Tuesday nights Utility (John), Wednesday nights Hounds (both of us). We loved Thursday nights at home!
Then there were the dogs, litters, judging appointments and when time permitted, shows to attend. Not to mention non doggie time out like family events. So the year flew past.
The year finished with some new champions and a new Grand Champion:
Berri owned by Jan Hutcheson is now CH RIDGESETTER MAGIC BERRI
Sabrina, owned by us, is now CH RIDGESETTER MAGIC SPELL
Clover, owned by us, is now GRAND CHAMPION RIDGESETTER ETAIN
Coco, owned by Mike & Sandra Patterson, is now CH RIDESETTER COCO CHANEL

10 Jan Packed the car with puppies, Lily, Linda and Emma and off to Melbourne we went for a couple of days of shopping! My son organised our sofa to be shipped back to Sydney so we didn't need the box trailer after all. Syd went to his new home in Surf Beach and we'll catch up with him in March.
12 Jan Dali went to his new home in Port Melbourne and we'll hopefully catch up with him in March.
13 Jan Packed the car with less puppies, Lily, Linda and Emma and then we packed the box trailer with our shopping!
14 Jan Coco went to his new home in Cranebrook. That just leaves Squidge at home.
15 Jan Our judging appointment in Qld was postponed due to the floods. Devastating. Visited Mike and Sandra at Mittagong to meet their new import from NZ, Thyme. What a sweet and happy boy.
16 Jan John and Ryan went fishing. How come we had Pasta for dinner?
17 Jan The builders are back at work after a 3 week break. Yippee. We look forward to having a finished kitchen. Benches, a sink and tap are very important.
12 & 13 Mar Clover went Best Open In Show and RUNNER-UP BEST IN SHOW at the 2nd Whippet National held in Victoria under esteemed judge Lyn Jacoby-Wright from the UK. Entry was 296 whippets so we were thrilled. Tokay came 2nd in Intermediate Bitch as well. Blue won the Australasian Sweepstakes (which is for dogs and bitches who have won a CC or Reserve CC at a specialty) under whippet specialist Terry Collicutt. A great weekend catching up with friends and seeing some lovely dogs.
19 & 20 Mar Duke wins his 4th BEST IN SHOW SPECIALTY under well-known English judge, Julie Bates of Gunthwaite fame. Vegas placed 4th in Junior Bitch. John stayed home with our dogs this time. Had a wonderful weekend with Steve and Sue who looked after me once again and Dawn was a great travelling companion.
8 April Quest severs his front toe through to the bone. Off to the vets for surgery. Let's hope all is okay.
9 April Vegas wins BEST OF BREED and RUNNER-UP BEST IN GROUP from the Junior Class and beating her dad, Duke.
12 April Presented the Whippet Club lecture to Hound aspirants at Erskine Park.
17 April Had Dawn stay over for Newfoundland judging at Sydney Royal and then Steve and Sue arrived for the next couple of weeks. Ann-Marie due next Thursday. Full house. Looks like a wine shop! : D
19 April Duke wins Open Dog, Reserve Challenge and RUNNER-UP BEST OF BREED at Sydney Royal under Sandra Lex from Canada. Duke was also part of the Elangeni RR Breeder Team.
22 April John's Birthday and our Whippet Show. What an exciting day. Clover wins BEST IN SPECIALTY SHOW under world-renowed judge, Bo Bengtson. Spot won NEUTER IN SHOW. What can we say? There's no more ultimate award than to win a well contested award in strong competition under one of the most recognised experts in the breed. Along with her National win, we are very happy breeder/owners.
23 April We went to the Sighthound Association show under Christophe Coppel from France. It was interesting that he measured nearly all dogs and counted 42 teeth. Something we are not used to in Australia - even from FCI judges. Clover made the cut for Open but no placing.
24 April Our second Whippet Show under replacement judge Massimiliano Mannucci from Italy. A hot day. Clover made the cut again in Open and Tokay placed and Blue won AUSTRALIAN BRED IN SHOW. Duke (Whippet) won NEUTER IN SHOW.
25 April Off to General Specials at Sydney Royal. Vegas was competing for Puppy in Hound Group. Duke competed in the Elangeni Breeder Team who won BEST HOUND BREEDER TEAM. Yeah.
29 & 30 April Off to Queensland for a judging appointment at Burnett KC. Had lots of fun and a very enjoyable time. Our host, Ken Iggledon, looked after us really well. Back home to find Quest has sliced his pad of his other front foot! Can't work out on what. Vet says several weeks to repair. Took bandage off repaired toe so now he's hopping around on 3 legs.
May the fire is on and burning nearly 24/7. Think Winter has arrived.
5 May the huge front tree was removed today. Makes a big difference but what a mess. And they hit my new fence! Now we have to spend the weekend splitting up the wood and then we have to move it.
14 May Blue was yelping last night. Off to the vet who diagnosed that she has hurt her neck. Home on Valium. She seemed okay and then got a little worse Sunday / Monday so off to Neil Barnsley for laser treatment. Neil confirmed my vet's diagnosis that Blue has hurt the very top vertebrae in her neck and her muscles are in spasm. Also saw the vet who has advised we give her some pain medication as well. Never ends does it?
18 May Sabrina is still heavily pregnant and overdue. Vet check yesterday gave her all clear. Not dilated. Puppy hearts all okay and they are moving well. She's eating like she's never been fed so we just sit and wait.
